Just a bit lol -
I have decided to move the UK zen cart template away from the classic as of the new release.

I am not looking forward to some of the updates that are on the way.  Interesting but just not looking forward to them.

With the release of the new 1.3.5 ZC code this sounds like a great option.

Thanks for the tought.

Legal disclaimers are a real hot topic at the moment.

As a UK business you need to look at our EU regulations.

I would never advise anyone to go live without policies and disclaimers but there is no common wording that I've found.

Your policy should include things like:
We will not share, trade or rent your details with any third party.
However we may from time to time send you information of products, services or information from third parties.
You will be able to remove yourself from our list(s) at anytime using our automated control panel located here: <link>
It will be treated in accordance with the legal provisions under English law concerning data protection and may be initially stored and processed inside or outside the European Union anywhere in the world.
You agree to indemnify us against all loss howsoever caused.
This policy will be governs by the laws of England and Wales.

Having just wrote that I now need to inform you that I do not in any way represent that the information you have read is acurate and as such I recommend that you seek the advice of a qualified legal beagle.

smile

Hope that sends you on the right track

Another solution would be to use the MZMT shipping module from
http://www.dream-scape.com/pub/zencart/MZMT/

I know this mod worked with versions before 1.3.* and as I remember it didn't overwrite any core files.

Once it's installed it's a case of adding the new rates - and working out how to define what category each of your products fits into.

Hi Zenith,
It's one of the things that is 'being worked on' - as and when time permits.

Based on past experience you should be able to apply the old template without too much going 'weird' - It shouldn't break ZC if that's a concern.

If you are experiencing or notice any 'strange' things once you've applied your template please let me know here and I'll tweak the files.

Many eyes save time smile

Thanks in advance.

has anyone got any idea how to handle the new RM pricing scheme

It will be very interesting working that out.

How do we 'virtually' measure the size of the package?

Everyone - Please feel free to contribute your thoughts.

Kev

If you post your URL I'll have a look for you.
If you are altering the css files in that directory then you should see changes.

It might sound like a dumb question but have you selected the UK template?

How many template files are there in that directory?

Best.

UPDATE:  OK .... I felt bad and went to the ZC forums to find out about Future Zen.

Version 1.2 is out now and I've downloaded it.

It has two folders (images and css) plus the template info .php file.

None of these files will upset your UK template.

Simply upload your Future Zen files into your corresponding UK template folders.

NOTE: If you upload the template_info.php file you will find that the UK template gets renamed to 'future Zen'

DON'T PANIC!  Your UK Template main files will still be there and future zen 1.2 does not affect your database or the core UK template files.

Hope this helps

Kev

Hi Robert,

I haven't used Future Zen so I can't help you much.

If future zen only changes the stylesheets it shouldn't be much of an issue.
If FZ has the ability to set paths etc, just point it to your UK template CSS folder.

If it's inteligent then it may work out that you are using the UK template and try to modify the correct css files.  You would probabbly need to alter the permissions to 777 so it can write to it.

I don't have much time to have a look at present but please feel free to keep us all updated on your progress.

and remember - ALWAYS backup your database and site BEFORE making any changes.

Hope this gives you a starting point.

Best of luck

Kev

Hi There,

Sorry to say that I haven't made any progress on making the integration of the UK module to other templates 'easier'.

I'm a fraid that it will have to be a case of manual intervention.

I'm working on 3 projects flat out at present and can't remember the CSS off the top of my head.

Make a back-up of your working CSS file [file.css.bak] then 'play' with the relavent bits.

Without throwing time I don't have at the moment to your problem, that's the best I can do.

Hope that helps in some way.

P.S.  If your css mods go horribly wrong you just delete the css file and rename your back-up file smile

1. Check the css file as all text colours are defined there.
2. Check your css files and remove the reference to the image. (the image is the backgraound you see)

Also I noticed that your images took an age (even with broadband) to appear.  You might want to consider optimising them to below 20k and have the full size image available when people want to see a bigger version.

Hope that helps

Kev

I have recieved an email from Nathan who has downloaded and uses the UK template.  He experienced a problem and did some digging to find the solution which I'm posting here for you to read.

Nathan wrote:

I think I've come across a small bug. When I first installed the
template, ZC started throwing up errors in the admin panel along the
lines of "cannot modify header information". After a bit of trawling on
the ZC forums, I found out it relates to extraneous white space in the
php. The fix was to remove the two blank lines at the end of the
admin/includes/languages/english.php file.

If you have the same problem you know what to do ...

and can I just point out that this was an error that was in the original ZC 1.3 code from the team and is NOT specific to the UK template.

This is something to do with the way ZC pushes the info to PP.

I've never really fixed this annoyance, maybe someone over in the main ZC forums can help out?

As it stands, if I were in your position I'd run with the fact that PP is taking the cash and your clients can get a breakdown from the invoice that ZC provides by default.

Hope that's of some help,

Kev

How many times did you run the sql update because that's the only way you could get all of your side boxes to appear 4 times?

If you have the boxes in your sql 4 times then the simple solution is to modify your sql so you only have one set smile

Hope that helps.

P.S.  Thinking about it, If you ran the sql more than once you'll also have 4 lots of counties etc - you'll need to get rid of them as well.

Have you set the postage and packing rates for the products?
Have you set the weight of the products?

The UK mod does not alter or change the PayPal IPN in anyway.

What shipping mod are you using to define your shipping costs and carrier?

Hi Pete

I won't remove the post as it got me thinking as well.

Feel free to post your solution here for others and future reference.

Did you use pure CSS or did you use a graphic to get the desired effect?

Kev

Thanks for that update Alan!

I think I'll spend some time (when I get some spare time that is) and put together an undo sql script - just in case.

Kev

Glad I could be of assistance Alan and I'm happy you've got it sorted out.

As long as it's not a nuclear bomb you drop into the old PP a/c I'll be a very happy bunny!

Thanks

Kev

Hi Alan,

I'd guess that you haven't uploaded the actual files in the 'Admin' and 'Includes' folders that came with the download and you've only applied the sql update.

Just upload the folders and ZC will see the new template ready for you to apply smile

Hi Bryony,

What pages did you find these on?

I thought I'd found and altered all of them sad

Hi Bryony,

This simple answer is - That's the way the CSS sections of the template were provided by the Zen-Cart team'.

I basically used an existing template and changed only the 'essential' files to give us a UK structure.

After five hours, I wasn't in the mood to sort out the CSS as well smile

You are right.  It is better to have just one stylesheet (and easier).  I started from scratch like you are.  You could just copy what you want from 'original' to 'new' and delete the original when you are done.

Hope that helps

Hi,
Let's go through the obvious things.
Have you installed the correct version of the UK template?

If you have have you double checked that you've uploaded all of the files AND run the sql file?

If both of these are OK we need to look at is the cart being used 'properly'.

If memory serves me Aberdeen is the first county in alphabetical order.
Have you tried typing in 'Essex' or 'Ess' and seeing if the system detects what you want to input?

I haven't seen this problem before.

If none of the above helps, please PM me your URL so I can see for myself.

Thanks
