Topic: Royal Mail Pricing

Hi

I've just down loaded ZenCart and the UK template and I'm slowly finding my way round the  system.

At lunch time I was in the Post Office and I picked up a leaflet on their wonderful new pricing structure which uses size as well as weight to work out how much something will cost to post.

ZC only knows about weights which works fine at the moment but has anyone got any idea how to handle the new RM pricing scheme? Apart from not using RM at all for posting?

It will be very interesting working that out.

How do we 'virtually' measure the size of the package?

Re: Royal Mail Pricing

There are 3 "classes" of postal item:

Letter
Large Letter
Packet.

So I guess what is needed is to something similar to the "Table Rate" postage item but where we basically assign a "shipping class" to a product.

So a CD has a shipping class of "Packet". a "post card" size object would be classed as a "letter".

However if you only ever post stuff in padded envelopes then its easy as they will all be too "fat" to be classed as letters as they will be more than 25mm thick. So I guess you just cut your losses and assume everything is a "Packet" and just go on weight and ignore the size.

Another solution would be to use the MZMT shipping module from
http://www.dream-scape.com/pub/zencart/MZMT/

I know this mod worked with versions before 1.3.* and as I remember it didn't overwrite any core files.

Once it's installed it's a case of adding the new rates - and working out how to define what category each of your products fits into.
