Is there a way, or contribution, to edit more than one product as the same operation?
For example, I find myself wanting to change all the tax classes of all my products to UK VAT from "taxable goods", and am having to do it manually. I'm the lazy sort, and it's painful...

Easy Populate Advanced is the tool I use. It's a paid for solution ... but it's worth every penny.
It might be overkill for you though and if that's the case I guess you'll be backing up the db and running a 'find and replace' in notepad2 or the like before uploading the modified sql file (or section).
Sometimes getting your hands dirty is the only solution and it IS quicker than doing it one by one by one by one

Ah, I've seen Easy Populate, and it's on my list of things to get. Good to know it lives up to its name.
I take it it's for more than just initial imports and things?
sure is!
You can set/update pricing and descriptions etc from a csv file.
I've got a couple of clients who use it. They update the csv from their database and vice versa for stock control.
It's not ideal but it is quicker than doing things one product at a time.
