Topic: Beginner

Hi all,

New member here and new to Zen Cart.  Forgive me if I have missed the relevant thread / post, but I have been unable to locate the zc_beginners_bible information, as outlined in a recent email as being available.  Where might I find this item?  Also, it would be appreciated if someone could refer me to relevant threads, which show a complete novice how to work with Zen Cart 'out of the box' to enable me to customise it for my own purposes (in laymans language if possible) - I am UK based and have managed to download the UK template successfully.  Since downloading it however, I have dabbled with it and now it does not work properly (will scrub it and download again etc).

I have come to Zen Cart and this forum after spending approx 40hrs trying to understand how to use OSCommerce, without a successful conclusion, hopefully I can better understand how to work with Zen Cart.  I am not a coder, but do have knowledge of basic HTML and the Dreamweaver package.  Very clear instruction required.

Thx.

Re: Beginner

Hi,
The Beginners bible is no longer available from where it used to be.  Thanks for the heads up.

Dreamweaver you won't be needing ... unless you decide to get fancy.

Step 1:  Upload all of your zen cart files to your hosting account.
Step 2: Upload the UK zen cart files:
Step 3: Follow the basic Zen Cart installation instructions.  <yourdomain>/zc_install
Step 4:  to define the UK template follow the UK instructions to chose template.
Step 5: Ready for you to add other mods.

Go to the Zen Forums - there is a great book that will help you understand what you need to do.

I personally think ZC is better than OSC.  They both take time to master but I think ZC has the edge.

Re: Beginner

Kev, the way it's written may imply overwriting the full original admin, includes and zc_install directories, or it could be just replacing the relevant files within those directories. Sorry to be dumb. It's my birthright. wink
Many thanks,

Mike

Re: Beginner

If you look at the folder/file structure of the UKZC Template you do just upload the files as is.

It works that way.

If you don't upload the few files in the admin section things will not be as expected.  The front end in UK date format and the admin in US date format.
